Your opportunity to explore Snowdon by the quietest and most beautiful route.

Join a small, friendly, likeminded group, accompanied by friendly, professional guides to keep you happy, motivated and safe.

Take the Rhyd Ddu Path to the summit of the highest mountain in Wales, stand at 1085 metres and enjoy the amazing views across Snowdonia with its rugged beauty. Fingers crossed for a clear day to see across to the Glaslyn Estuary and Harlech coastline.

There are 6 main routes up Snowdon of which the Rhyd Ddu path is the quietest and least visited. The path takes a gradual start along the old slate query track where from the start you will enjoy views of Moel Hebog and the Nantlle Ridge before taking a steeper route over rocky terrain to the Llechog Ridge. From here the route follows the exposed ridge to the summit with views across Cwm Clogwyn with its three tiny lakes.

Distance: 8.5 miles

Time: 5-7 hours

Elevation gain: 895 metres

Itinerary

8.30am – Meet at Rhy Ddu car park (OS Grid Ref:SH571526)

(Pay and display parking)

You will meet your group and your guide who will brief you on safety and procedures for the day

8.45am – Start walking on the Rhyd Ddu Path

 12.30 – Arrive at the summit

12.45pm – Leave the summit and start the descent via the same path

(Timings will be flexible depending on the group and the weather)

3.30pm – Arrive back at Rhyd Ddu car park

There will be breaks for refreshments and food along the route.

Toilets are available at the start (and maybe at the summit but this depends very much on weather and time of year)

Who's it for?

This walk is for anyone with a moderate level of fitness.

You should be comfortable walking for 2 – 3 hours without stopping and have some experience of hill walking.  It is meant to be challenging but also enjoyable so the more training you can do the better.

Please bring a packed lunch and plenty of water (minimum 1.5 litres) and snacks!
