Rootskills

Providing the foundations for improving skills for life and employment

 What is it?

RootSkills is the social enterprise part of Breese Adventures.  Our RootSkills project provides outdoor programmes to selected groups of people who have not achieved their potential in a traditional classroom environment. We introduce them to the benefits of developing skills in the outdoors for life and employment.

What we do

RootSkills offer outdoor residential and non-residential programmes and a range of outdoor activities which introduce the benefit of learning outdoors and provide opportunities to develop and improve employability skills.

About the programme

Over 6-8 sessions we introduce you to the outdoors and a range of activites, promoting awareness of your individual strengths and abilities, an awareness of others and an understanding of the environment.

Programmes are small groups of 6 – 8 participants to allow flexibility and a high level of support for each individual. Each group will be accompanied at all times by 2 outdoor instructors.

What will I learn?

Along with the obvious health and fitness benefits of the outdoors these are some of the skills we will focus on developing:

  • Communication
  • Decision making
  • Leadership
  • Problem solving
  • Self awareness
  • Social awareness
  • Responsibility
  • Accountability
  • Adaptability
  • Environmental awareness
  • Confidence
  • Creativity
  • Team work
  • Task analysis and planning

We also provide the opportunity to develop a better understanding of the outdoors and the environment, how others see the world and how this translates in a work environment.
