Charity Spotlight – PHASE Worldwide

 In Charity Events

With The Snowdonia Challenge providing a popular event with individuals and teams alike we spoke to Jonathan Scorer from one of our partner charities PHASE Worldwide about what the event means to them.

Tell us a little bit about what PHASE is about

“PHASE empowers isolated communities in Nepal through health, education and livelihoods opportunities. We have been working in the most remote areas of Nepal for over 10 years, enabling communities to achieve self-empowerment. The people who live in these areas lack access to services, often having to travel for days to reach the most basic of healthcare services or walk for several hours to attend school. PHASE aims to change that by setting up health posts, schools and running training programmes for farmers that produce sustainable results. Our health posts and schools will eventually be handed over to the government so that there is a sustainable legacy that continues to provide for those living in isolated communities. Our main concerns are pre and post-natal care, improving nutrition and providing education in the wake of the 2015 Nepal earthquake that devastated many of the communities we work in.”

What made you join this challenge and what it would mean to you for people to join your Snowdonia Challenge team

“We joined the challenge so that we could continue to help the most vulnerable in isolated communities across Nepal. We are driven by a desire to improve the lives of the vulnerable people who live in remote Nepal. Especially after the 2015 Nepal earthquake, PHASE is determined to sustainably improve health and education services as well as ensure exciting livelihoods opportunities are open to those living in remote Nepal. Nepal is a mountainous country, with most of the world’s highest peaks, like Everest, in Nepal. The scenery in the most remote regions of Nepal is breath-taking, despite the extreme poverty we are working to eradicate. We recently ran a campaign asking ‘what’s your #Mountain2Climb?’ to remind ourselves of the daily challenges faced in these areas. The Snowdon Challenge is therefore ideal opportunity to ask everyone: what’s your #Mountain2Climb?”

What support  can your Snowdonia Challenge team expect from you?

We provide support for all those raising money for PHASE. We will provide continuous social media exposure to help raise funds and team-members will have access to all our fundraising resources.

What difference the money raised will make to your organisation

“The money raised will make a huge difference to those living in remote areas in Nepal. Through your fundraising, PHASE will be able to continue to provide the basic services in isolated communities. We currently run several projects, each specifically tailored to meet the needs of the local community. In every one, we ensure that our work is sustainable and will empower the community so that our work has a permanent, positive effect.”

Walk For Nepal

In 2016 120 climbed Snowdon to fundraise for PHASE Worldwide and their Nepal Earthquake appeal, led by Alex Staniforth (who is also one of our Snowdonia Challenge special guest speakers).
