Charity Spotlight – Wales Air Ambulance
Over the next few weeks we will be spotlighting each of our Snowdonia Challenge charity partners. Starting with the incredible Wales Air Ambulance
Wales Air Ambulance provide emergency air cover for those who face life-threatening illness or injuries in the whole of Wales. With four helicopters based around Wales they are the largest air ambulance operation in the UK and bases in the North (Caernarfon), Mid (Welshpool) and South (Llanelli) means they can be anywhere in Wales in 20 minutes.
It takes them just 3 minutes to get the helicopter in the air ready to confront Wales diverse landscape. This fast response and ability to reach patients and get them the treatment they need within the hour significantly increases chances of survival and recovery. Getting this treatment within the first hour may not otherwise be possible when you consider getting to the patient by road and the remote locations of Wales, or even the congestion in and around cities.
Wales Air Ambulance also operate the National Children’s Air Ambulance of Wales, airlifting 300 children a year to hospitals across the UK to specialist units in order for them to get the care they need. The new Babypod incubators enable them to provide this service for babies just a few hours old.
A few facts on Wales Air Ambulance recent missions:
The charity is funded entirely by the people of Wales and receives no government funding. This means that every year they need to raise £6.5 million to keep the helicopters in the air. Each missions costs on average £1500.
This year we were delighted to be able to help Wales Air Ambulance with their fundraising efforts and took a group of people to the summit of Snowdon. The weather wasn’t very good to us but it was a fantastic day and a great effort by everyone.
Join us next year with two amazing opportunities to fundraise for Wales Air Ambulance.

A team will also be fundraising while having a new amazing adventure on the Snowdon Sunrise trek.
Earlier on in the year we had a very exciting visit to the airbase in Caernarfon and even more exciting that the helicopter was there! We are totally in awe of the knowledge, experience and commitment of the whole team and very much looking forward to working with Wales Air Ambulance in 2017.
