Adapted Snowdon SunRaise – Travel Counsellors
Making Memories with Travel Counsellors in aid of Reuben’s Retreat
Reuben’s Retreat is about making happy memories. Travel Counsellors have adopted Reuben’s Retreat as their charity of the year.
One of their members, Nick, is going to be attempting to reach the summit of Snowdon in his wheelchair. Nick has been training hard both in and out of the gym and is bringing a support team along to help over the more difficult terrain.
Nick and his support team will be setting off on Sunday 24th June to make some great memories on this once in a lifetime adventure, whilst raising funds for Reuben’s Retreat.
I have been paraplegic since the age of 22 years after a road traffic accident. Although this was shattering to me at the time I decided early on that I was still going to live a full life. I travelled around the world, often by myself and took part in activities such as skiing and water skiing. It was all this travel that gave me the inspiration to go on and obtain a job in travel.
I work as a Travel Counsellor and through my own experiences and further training with Travel Counsellors I have been able to share my experiences and give confidence to my clients who themselves have disabilities and encourage them to realise all their travel dreams as I believe ‘travel is accessible for everyone’.
So, when I had this opportunity to climb Snowdon I never gave it a second thought and feel confident that my disability will not be a barrier to achieving this. I will prove to everyone regardless of their abilities that with the right support team you can achieve your dreams.
About Reuben’s Retreat
Reuben’s Retreat is a charity which was born in memory of Reuben Michael Graham who tragically passed away aged 23 months.
The primary goal of Reuben’s Retreat is to create a sanctuary that will be a home-from-home for families coping with the serious illness of a child, providing respite breaks and the chance to build happy memories.
Every step you take on this amazing challenge will raise vital funds to help this charity in their mission to relieve the distress of families who have suffered the bereavement of a child or have a child suffering from a life limiting/threatening illness.
