At Dinas Mawddwy take the turning at the Red Lion and follow the road down the hill for about a mile into Abercywarch. Immediately after the bridge over the stream, take the left turning marked Cwm Cywarch.
Follow this narrow lane until you come to an open area and the car park is just past that and is well signed.
Please note that the lane leading up from Abercywarch village is very narrow in places, so please drive slowly and respect other cars and walkers.
This Aran Fawddwy circular route starts just outside of Dinas Mawddwy, nestled in the Aran range of Mountains.
Head north under the impressive crags of Cwm Cywarch
North west through the valley under Creigiau Camddwr
North east for 3km
Summit Aran Fawddwy 905m
Continue around the ridge above Creiglyn Dyfi
At Drws Bach we will stop at a Cairn that was built in memory of a member of a mountain rescue team killed by lightning, which is perched high above the valley of Hengwm.
Summit Drysgol 730m
South to summit Waun Goch 605m
South west via Hengwm valley to return to start
12.5 Km / 8 Miles
We want everyone to enjoy their challenge and reach the summit in their own time so will walk at a pace suitable for the whole group. It is important that the group stays together with the leader/s. Depending on numbers taking part groups may be split into smaller groups of similar pace and ability.
Please note that, although we would love to, we can’t promise clear skies on this day!
If you are 14 or over, of a reasonable fitness and can walk 3-4 hours comfortably with some hill walking experience then this challenge is for you.
A reasonable head for heights would be good.
If you are not sure about fitness levels but are committed to put in some training over the next few months we have specially designed training plans to help you along the way. We recommend the ‘Challenging’ training plan for this event.
All walkers should be 14 and over and any under 18’s should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Sorry, no dogs.
